What is the difference between Cannabis and Hemp?
When looking for the first time one cannot make a difference between Cannabis and Hemp. Both are the same plant: Cannabis sativa. There are a few characteristics that differentiate the two. One is majorly used for safe industrial and pharmaceutical purposes, and the other is used largely as a recreational and pharmaceutical drug.
Hemp vs. Cannabis – How Hemp Differs from Cannabis:
- Cannabis contains a high amount THC which is the reason it is psychoactive in nature. Hemp contains less than 0.3% THC by definition. Hemp will not make you stoned, unlike Cannabis.
- Since Hemp has a very less amount of THC, it is also being used for a lot of industrial purposes, such as Paper, cosmetics, food, supplements, textile etc.
- Marijuana can be either a Sativa or Indica. Hemp is only a member of the Cannabis Sativa family.
